KURDISTAN - IRAQI KURDISTAN REGION (IKR REGION)
Immigration officials in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (IKR) routinely allow U.S. citizens to enter Iraq without a valid Iraqi visa; however, the airport-issued IKR visa is not valid outside the IKR, and U.S. citizens are not permitted to travel within the rest of Iraq with only the IKR-issued visa.
Nationals of USA can obtain a "Iraq-Kurdistan Visa" on arrival at Erbil (EBL) and Sulaymaniyah (ISU) for a max. stay of 15 days. However, you will have to report to the Residency Office within 10 days of your arrival if you want to stay longer than 10 days. This involves many forms to fill out, around $30 USD in fees as well as a compulsory blood test to check for Hep C and HIV. Be prepared to wait for around 2-3 hours throughout this whole process.
U.S. citizens who plan to stay for longer than 15 days require an extension to their visa; this can be obtained by visiting the local residency office.
